On Monday, 12th November the results of our Annual Projected Digital Image Competition were given to us by Brian Park FRPS, EFIAP from York.
In the Applied section the Vessey Trophy was awarded to Frank Vallely for his richly coloured and crisply detailed picture of the ‘Chancel, Tewkesbury Abbey’. Certificates were given to Martin Drury’s picture of ‘Grandstand Seating 1920 Style’, Len Downes’ gorgeous ‘Puffin approaching Nest hole’ and Jim Counter for his ‘Noctule Bat’, well placed in the frame showing its face clearly.
The General section attracted 55 entries from which a beautifully composed landscape well caught in time called ‘A Break in the Weather’ by Frank Vallely won the Counter Trophy. Certificates were awarded to Mike Brown ARPS for his imaginative ‘Flowers – 2 Views’, Frank Vallely for ‘Frozen Trees’ that were weighed down by hoar frost, Peter McLean for his unusual view of ‘Hadrian’s Wall’, Kelvin Smith for ‘Seaside Special’ a nicely balanced take on a typical sea resort and Walter Lewis for a strong, simple yet atmospheric picture ‘Stroll on the Beach’.
The Davidson Trophy for best picture taken on a Society outing, went to Richard Bown ARPS for ‘Young Photographer’, a very well seen and caught picture of a boy taking a photograph at ‘The Deep’ Sea-life Museum in Hull. A certificate of merit was awarded to Pauline Drury for her humorous character portrait of ‘Ladies at Ripon Races’!
A vote of thanks was given by Richard Bown. Next week, Robert Falconer HND, Nat. Dip. in Photography will return, this time with his lecture ‘Cuban Paradise’.
