Digital Imaging Group - 'Imagine'
In 1996 a number of members of the Harrogate Photographic Society who were impressed by the potential of digital imaging formed a group called Imagine in order to facilitate the exchange of technical knowledge and artistic ideas, and to develop new skills. They have had successful exhibitions at the Mercer Gallery in Harrogate and the Design Exchange in Bradford, held an extremely well attended day with the Yorkshire region of the Royal Photographic Society and have more recently given talks to a number of photographic societies/camera clubs. The styles exhibited by the group as a whole are as diverse as its membership, with all branches of photography being represented. The group welcomes members with access to computer technology who would like to become active in this exciting new area.

The members' Slide Portfolio meets bi-monthly throughout the Autumn, Winter and Spring. Meetings take place at members' homes on Friday evenings at 7.30pm, when members show four slides of the set subject followed by slides of other subjects of their own choosing, all for critical appraisal that helps members to analyse their own strengths and weaknesses. The use of a set subject has two purposes; to set up comparisons of approach and also to encourage members to undertake areas of photographic imagery that they might not otherwise explore.
The exposure to criticism is not vicious, after all we are trying to learn from one another and the opportunity to show your work to a small informal group is less traumatic than having some impersonal judge tearing you to pieces in front of the whole society. So why not come along to one of our meetings and test the water - you are sure to get some new ideas.

The members' Print Portfolio usually has five or six meetings through the year. The emphasis is on the production of prints by members using traditional methods, with monochrome prints commanding the greatest attention. An important aspect is the circulation of a portfolio of prints between members for appraisal.
New members who have an interest in this fascinating aspect of photography, where differing techniques and views may be shared, are always welcome. Tuesday evenings are usually a mutually convenient time to meet, often at Eric Downer's home.
