HARROGATE PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY

Harrogate Photographic Society welcomes anyone with an interest in photography, either as a member or as a visitor.

 The society meets each Monday evening from mid September to mid April in an informal and friendly atmosphere to listen to expert speakers or participate in practical workshops and competitions. Meetings are held in the Friends' Hall, Homestead Road, Harrogate (see the location map). Officially the evening starts at 7.45pm but prior to that there is the opportunity to socialise, seek advice or even help to put the chairs out! Following the evening's entertainment, tea and biscuits are served with further opportunity to meet the members.

Harrogate Photographic Society was formed at a meeting of photographers in a local shop on 23rd October 1922. The first public meeting was held at the Spa Hydro, on Kings Road, two weeks later. In March 1923 the society applied for membership of the Yorkshire Photographic Union (YPU). From these humble beginnings the society has grown and is now one of the largest societies within the YPU.

The age and ability of members is wide, as is the range of photographic interests. The society rules state that its object is 'the advancement of the art and science of photography'. You will find members who are willing to talk to you on any photographic topic and will generally find an expert on most.

New members are always welcome and whether you have an interest in traditional photography in monochrome or colour, or in digital manipulation of images, the society's programme should prove both instructive and entertaining. If you are interested in any aspect of photography, then why not come along to one of our meetings and see for yourself.

Individual Members - £37

Junior Members (under 18yr) - £3

Student Members (full time student over 18yr) - £15

Temporary or prospective Members will be admitted for a donation of £3

Subscriptions are due on or before 1st October and any Member who has not paid by the competition entry date will be disqualified from entering competitions. Subscription receipts will be issued and must be produced on admittance if requested. The receipt will bear a number which will be the only identifier for competition entries.
